Strengths and Values

Strong Interpersonal Skills:I have very strong interpersonal skills; I’m able to clearly convey my message to others, whether it is verbal or non-verbal communications methods (i.e. via email or over the phone). I’m a good listener; I believe that it’s not only paying attention to the story, but how it is told, the use of language and voice, and how the other person uses their body. It’s important to keep an open mind and be objective about the message being told. I work well in a team by, encouraging others to participate, adapting to the role best suited for me, working together to find a mutually agreeable outcome, being assertive when needed and working hard to help the team reach the end goal in a cohesive manner. Whilst at the same time, I am also able to complete tasks solo when necessary.
Organisational Skills:I have strong organisational skills; I’m good at planning and time management. This is especially important because as a journalist I will have story deadlines to meet and it’s essential to be able to use time wisely. I also always like to be prepared, whether it’s having an extra pen handy or having a backup plan. But I also believe it’s important to be able to think on your feet when you need to. I keep calendar with all the details of my schedule and I create lists to keep me on track by enabling me to prioritise tasks in an effective and efficient manner.
Determination:I’m a determined person, when I have a goal or task to complete. I like to see it when things get done and to make them happen, but I’m also constantly to look for better ways of doing things.
Dependability:Being trustworthy and reliable is an important sign of commitment. I strive to be dependable whether it’s just being there for someone or showing up to work on time or being ready to learn and by doing so I also take responsibility for my actions.
Integrity:Having integrity is one of the most important values in life. I believe it’s important to be:
Honest – With sincerity and without being misleading;
Committed – Setting standards and sticking to them;
Courageous – Standing up for my beliefs;
Resilient – Learning from my mistakes and taking the opportunity to improve.
I believe that respect is valuable in all parts of life. I believe it’s important to be:
Accepting – Supporting everyone regardless of background, abilities or beliefs;
Considerate – Aware of others rights and feelings;
Attentive – Ready to learn from others;
Encouraging – Showing concern for the growth and development of others;
Appreciative – Valuing the guidance of others.
