    When you’re deciding on going to the movies, the options on offer in Canberra appear to be limited. It’s either the option of the commercial Hollywood films at Hoyts or Event Cinemas, or the premium art-house films Dendy or Palace Electric. However, there is an alternative option. Arc Cinema at the National Film and Sound Archive, is a place that is designed to present the ‘best‐practice’ cinema from the appreciation of screen heritage to showcasing current practice in screen art.

    Today we’ll be going into public school canteens, many of which are fighting for sustainability or else face closure due to the Government’s push for healthier canteens. We find out whether or not the ACT is going through a shortage of general practitioners, after the recent closure of a suburban medical centre. And we look into social media’s new involvement of policy making, after last year’s banning of the “super trawler” in Australian waters.

Shortage of GPs in the ACT

    The debate about whether or not the ACT has a shortage of general practitioners has arisen again, after the Spence Medical Centre closed its doors after 18 years of practice. Due to being unable to find any new doctors to take over. However, there may not necessarily be a link.

Earlier start to education affecting children?

    There is an increase in the number of parents who are beginning to send their children to school earlier than the recommended age of five, with many saying the cost of childcare is the reason. Enrolments for kindergarten have increased considerably over the past few years, with enrolments growing between 3 to 6 percent nationwide since 2010.
